A bunch of individuals in mumbai had organized a funeral for a tree & called it MY MOTHERS FUNERAL, mother nature that is.
A global warming awareness program where they communicated to over 50,000 people through different art forms, print & video on what you & I can do to save our mother from dying.
It was held at the gateway of india. we chose this spot because cause there was news that they were cutting down a couple hundred trees around that area (around may 2007).
so this seemed like a nice place to create a scene or a brilliant environment for a performance art. cause indians love to stare at any small thing, here we had a dead tree & a couple of women(rudalis: moaners) in white yelling & taking the blame of killing their own mother by wasting energy, wasting water, killing trees etc. along with this they were given t-shirts & posters(recycled paper) which told people what to do & how to save our disintegrating planet
on June 17th, 2007, sunday evening 5pm a couple of thousand people gathered at the scene some thought it was good some got angry cops stopped us from hanging there till we showed them the permissions & then they had a problem with the money we gave them eventually they joined us in the march to kala ghoda where the dead body was left as an instillation for 7 days for passing people to pay their respects to mother nature.
It was a funeral procession of a tree which started from
Gate way to Kala Ghoda amphitheater at 5pm.
The event was organised to raise awareness on global warming
